This book is different from all the others I've read in the Vale Valley collection. The others are heavily romance focused, which is to be expected. This one was driven by the action/adventure/mystery of what is going on in Vale Valley.
J.C. Hart is a typical cynic. (Hate to say, I'm a cynic too. Is that why I like paranormal books so much?) He doesn't believe in anything paranormal and wants to expose everyone for the frauds they are so no one is taken advantage of.
Mark is a witch who can't seem to do any magic right. Lonely and feeling like a failure, Mark is feeling down when Hart comes to town.
The cynic and the witch, opposites attract, no? Mark gets to be J.C.'s cohost for the show in Vale Valley. Mark stresses about succeeding at magic, not revealing magic to L.C. and his cameras, and his attraction to L.C. He knows something is not right but he's not sure what is going on. L.C. is fighting to keep his job, getting something at Vale Valley is his last chance to save his show and his job.
Vale Valley is in trouble for this one. The spell protecting the town is weakening. Something weird is going but what is the cause? The different story style was refreshing. I was captivated and needed to finish the book fast to find out what happened. The more mystery driven style hooked me.
Of course, this is supposed to be a romance too. The romance of the book isn't apparent at first. Yet, I can see how vital it was to the story. They don't get to have the traditional going on dates, building a relationship sort of romance. It's more of a soul bond they have to recognize. I won't spoil anything but their bond is the key to everything. Without it, Vale Valley would be lost.
P.S. Writing this review made me realize exactly how much I enjoyed the book. Bumped up the rating from 4.5 to 5. I kinda want to read it again now, lol.
Hi. My name is Jordan K Prince. I live and breathe MM fiction. I am particularly fond of mpreg; I can never get enough. I'm in the process of writing my first MM novel, mpreg, of course.
