Sometimes the biggest secret is the one we keep from ourselves.
Tough beta cop, Mark, wakes one morning with a hangover and some very vague memories of the previous night. One of those memories is something that Mark believes can’t be possible.
He sees a flash in his mind of his best friend, Landon, who also happens to be his partner at work. Someone he’s always had a crush on. The thing that Mark can’t believe is what Landon is doing in that memory. And why Landon doesn’t have any clothes on.
It isn’t until Landon brings up the event that Mark realizes what is happening to him. For the last forty years, young beta men have been turning into omegas. Some as late as their twenties.
Mark is filled with shame when he realizes that's what's happening. He went into heat. He threw himself at his partner. He's now an omega.
And he's carrying Landon’s baby.
Mark’s whole world comes unraveled as he struggles with the changes his body is going through, as well as the changes in his perception of the world around him. He’s no longer the tough beta cop he thought he was, but Mark starts to realize what true strength really is.
His Biggest Secret is a friends-to-lovers novella of 37k words with some bad language, hot sexy times, exciting and suspenseful moments, and a super cute baby to cuddle and tickle. It is intended for readers over the age of 18.

Mark suddenly changes from a beta to an omega and it sends him reeling. Worse yet, he goes into heat and sleeps with his best friend and partner at work, Landon. Mark fights accepting the change at every turn. He doesn't want to be an omega and feels his life will be over if it's true. Being pregnant makes it rather difficult to ignore though. Landon is in a whole different place than Mark. He is excited and happy to have Mark and a coming baby. He tries to help Mark as best he can but Mark fights him at every turn.
I enjoyed the emotional struggle of the book. Mark struggles a lot in dealing with his biological change. He is his own worst enemy and it's him that has to change how he sees himself and others. Mark has more trouble accepting who he's become than anyone else does. I liked that Mark is a strong man, omega or not. He doesn't need to be taken care, he's not helpless. Landon was great. Sweet, strong, and supportive.
The one aspect of the book I wasn't a fan of is the whole women are infertile aspect. Xander Collins isn't the first to have that explanation as part of a mpreg universe, won't be the last either. It's not my personal preference. Why? Probably the exclusion aspect, taking away an entire sex ability to procreate in any fashion is pretty exclusionary. Again, just my preference. Thankfully for me, it wasn't a major point in the book. It's mentioned but not a focus. If you're like me and don't like that part, don't worry, the book is still enjoyable!
I read this book fast (despite not being an especially speedy reader). It kept my attention all the way to the end and I enjoyed it. I'm excited to read more from Xander Collins.

I confess I won this book in a giveaway. (Side note: I won something, woot woot! I am notoriously bad at winning things but not this time. MUHAHAHA) Alec is a human omega and he won the lottery to be the next omega sacrifice. He's super excited (heavy sarcasm alert!). Alec isn't willing to just roll over and die because of the elder's foolish beliefs about dragons. Lucien is a dragon alpha, who lost his dragon after his mate was killed. Both men are trying to survive the crappy hand they've been dealt. Things start to change when they meet. They are drawn to each other in a way that's confusing but hard to deny.
I definitely enjoyed this one. Good flow, something I probably will always talk about in my reviews. Gia would likely love to complain about how obsessed I am with flow. I enjoyed the characters very much. Alec is spunky and brave. He has a big heart and impossible (for me at least) not to like. Lucien has had a rough time himself but he never gives up. He is tough and loving. I love them together. The book has these funny sarcastic dialogue moments and I loved them. I hope the next book has those as well. I read this book very quickly and I never felt my attention lag. It has dragons, (DRAGONS!!) enough said. Add in some drama with a villain and his escapades along with the romance and I was a happy reader.
It's a great start to the series. There's much left to happen and I look forward to see what happens next. Bring on more dragons!!!
(Loving this story makes winning all the sweeter!)
Hi. My name is Jordan K Prince. I live and breathe MM fiction. I am particularly fond of mpreg; I can never get enough. I'm in the process of writing my first MM novel, mpreg, of course.
