It's lonely at the top of Olympus
Hot-headed Zeus used to be King of the Gods. He did what he wanted, when he wanted, and no one, not even his wife, Hera, could keep him under control. His passions were legendary, and no mortal could resist his advances. He and his brothers ran wild on Earth. Bedding and breeding countless mortals until the jealous goddess’ rebelled and cursed their wayward husbands.
After centuries of anger, the brothers have finally deciphered the promise of an ancient oracle that will change their lonely existence forever, and usher in an age of New Olympians.
Cameron was a theatre student, sure, he’s been around the block before, but no one had ever caught his eye like Zachary. The muscles, the beard, the tattoos… he was everything that Cameron should have known to run far away from, but there was an electricity between them, something he couldn’t explain… what he doesn’t know is that Zachary isn’t everything he says he is, and there’s more at stake than just some Friday night hookup. Cameron’s demand for truth and honesty in a relationship could spell the end of his dreams, or carry the promise of something beyond anything he could ever have imagined.
Lightning Strikes is book 1 in the New Olympians series. This novella is 32,000 words, with an HEA featuring an independent omega with big dreams and an alpha-god to claim him. This book features themes of male pregnancy/MPREG and is suitable for readers over the age of 18 only.
I was excited to read this book. I love Greek mythology; all those Gods and Goddesses (Athena: strong, beautiful, smart, badass? Talk about a woman to look up to!). Such a complex and dramatic world, it's interesting! Vincent takes Greek mythology and tweaks it to create a new universe. The Gods of Olympus are cursed by the Goddesses. They are no longer allowed to have sex with mortals; it would kill the mortal. The idea of the Goddesses cursing the Gods seems 100% accurate. The Gods were dogs, not that the Goddesses were angels either! They definitely felt the extent of the Goddesses' wrath. Pretty sad though as the Gods are all alone. All their demi-god children have died. They are without family except for the other Gods. Pretty lonely.
Zeus is an emotional god. Full of anger and loss and loneliness. He truly craves a family; he's lost without one. Hades (I'm 98% sure) reminds him of the prophecy of how to break the curse, which is basically they need to find a descendant of one of the Goddesses (since they aren't cursed and have mated with humans to create children). He needs to find his 'spark' and only then he'll be able to have a family again. Zeus, aka Zachary, is a hottie. Picture Zeus as a hipster, bearded and covered in tattoos. Yum! He's sexy as hell; I can see why humans just jumped into his bed! God, he would make such a good Daddy.
Cameron is passionate but poor. Going to school, he goes hungry too much. He's happy though because he is working toward his goal of being on stage. The other thing he loves besides the stage is his sister and her two children. Cameron is exactly the kind of guy I love. He's a little awkward, a little socially clueless, and absolutely adorable. Cameron lusts after Zeus pretty hard; Zeus is his dream guy.
This is a novella, so the relationship build up is fast but believable. They are hot together! I love the heat and spark they feel when they touch. If this story had novel length to it, the rating probably would have been higher. The story isn't lacking. More length means more immersion for me as a reader though and man, I wanted to be in the universe longer. This series seems to me like one I'd jump into and read until I was finished. I'm guessing all will be novellas, so it would be easy to do. I'd get all the immersion I am craving!
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It's a quick read, which at times is what I'm looking for. I wasn't craving a novella when I read this story, my rating might have been different had I been in that mood. It's a good start to the series. I am excited to read the rest of the series. I wish Hades was next because I want to read his story most. He's fascinating and I can't wait to see him fall like a ton of bricks for someone! Poseidon is next up and it seems he has met someone already. I wonder who it is!
Hi. My name is Jordan K Prince. I'm an avid reader of MM fiction. I am particularly fond of mpreg; I can never have enough. I'm in the process of writing my first MM novel, mpreg, of course. I live and breathe MM fiction and I enjoy every minute I can spend lost in the worlds I discover there.
