Ambrose’s family tradition destroys his plan to be a forever bachelor.
Although Ambrose doesn’t wish to be with anyone long term, he must find a spouse immediately. According to the rules, no one inherits the throne unless they’re married. Additionally, his father wishes for Ambrose to seek a human. Despite not being elated with the decision, Ambrose figures doing the necessary requirement of mating and impregnating will be enough.
Max, who identifies as non-binary, is tired of being shamed and manhandled. They wish to make a living off their “hobby” but it’s not in the cards. Relationships aren’t even on their list of things to strive for, and they don’t want to change. Unless the person is a certain Hollywood star they have a crush on, Max isn’t interested.
When Ambrose meets Max at their place of employment, Max refuses to give the alien king-in-waiting the time of day.
Little does Max know Ambrose’s calm exterior is a cover up for the monster willing to go great lengths to claim them for a partner.
This title is a standalone dark romance with forced mating, dub-con, MPreg, and smartass aliens who hate to be wrong. On page violence, rough sex, and knotting are included.
First off, this will not be a book for everyone. It is a dark romance. It does involve a man being kidnapped and married to an alien. If that's not your wheelhouse, no worries.
I am not typically a dark romance person. However, I have been drawn in a few times by dark romances. It's all in the writing. If I'm thinking about how wrong it is, I'm definitely not enjoying. That was the last thing I was thinking about reading this story. For me, that is essential to being able to enjoy a dark romance.
Max identifies as nonbinary, which is the first such character I've read. Exposure to a new type of character is great, expand my horizons a bit. Nothing wrong with that. Max is incredible. Max is strong and confident and feisty and vulnerable and ugh, I love them so much!
Ambrose sees Max and knows in an instance, they are for him. It's true love at first sight and good intentions be damned of taking things slow, Ambrose's monster takes over and he kidnaps Max. He can't understand why they fight him. Kidnapping a mate may be normal to him but it sure isn't to Max. Ambrose does try to do everything he can to make Max fall for him, although he does reach his breaking point eventually.
Max and Ambrose's romance is by no means conventional but in this fictional world, it works. They work. It's a struggle, damn but it's a struggle. It's sad, like to the point that Max is begging for death over life with Ambrose. I feel bad for them.
They have had a hard life and I was rooting for them to find love with Ambrose despite the circumstances. I wanted them to find their happily ever after. Max fights, fights hard.
Few appreciate Max's feisty fight aside from Ambrose and Minerva, Ambrose's mother. Ambrose's father wants to kill Max and have him choose another mate. Again, the people on the planet see from their own perspective and not from Max's.
Then, Max starts to change, physically, mentally, and emotionally. He starts to fall for Ambrose and his body starts to change into the crocodile creature Ambrose is. I loved reading Max and Ambrose in love. Max comes into their own as they change into their croc creature and how they interact with Ambrose is hot!
I enjoyed it all. The struggle, the angst, the fight, the give, the fall, the love, the pregnancy, the HEA. I loved the characters, the world, and the romance. It was a great book. One I'll read again. I happen to have won the Mandrake's Protekt series, and I can't wait to get started on that next.
Hi. My name is Jordan K Prince. I live and breathe MM fiction. I am particularly fond of mpreg; I can never get enough. I'm in the process of writing my first MM novel, mpreg, of course.
