Mpreg Obsession: Tell us about yourself. Can include your writing, academic or professional background, or even something personal.
Connor: Hi everyone! I’m Connor Crowe, and growing up as a gay nerd in rural North Carolina was a blast…not. Imagine how thrilled I was when I found the m/m genre and especially shifters and then mpreg! I went to school for computer programming and I’ve worked at a few tech startups you’ve probably heard of, but my first love has always been writing and I’m so grateful to be able to do this every day!
Mpreg Obsession: What inspired you to write in the Mpreg sub genre?
Connor: To me, it’s a beautiful thought that two people who love each other can start a family together, no matter their gender or orientation. Mpreg is a natural extension of the “happily ever after” for me, and of course, who doesn’t love cute babies?
Mpreg Obsession: What inspired you to write this story?
Connor: This story was inspired by fairy tales from my youth, especially Cinderella. Haven’t we all wanted to be whisked away from our lives and into a prince’s arms at some point? No? Just me? If you read Mated Under The Mistletoe, my first Vale Valley book, you’ll have met Nathan Willis, the “tailor mage” that created the scarf that brought Sebastian and Will together. What can I say? He took up residence in my mind and demanded a story, so here we are :)
Mpreg Obsession: What makes your story and/or characters unique and interesting?
Connor: I love writing stories of magic and adventure, especially when our heroes get to find love along the way :) In this That Magical Moment? You get all that and more—cute and awkward moments, dirty talk (no really some seriously dirty talk), and a hard-won happily ever after for both parties. Oh and! It’s my first wolf shifter book. So much fun. In fact…
Mpreg Obsession: What are you planning to write next?
Connor: The book I’m writing next is about a fox shifter who steals from the wrong wolf pack…and ends up finding his mate. I can’t wait to share it with you.
Mpreg Obsession: What type of research do you do for your work?
Connor: I like to read all the books I can get my hands on, and sometimes I will watch cute romantic movies as well. Let’s just say I binged a lot of Hallmark for my Vale Valley books! And then there’s the sex scene “research” but I’ll not get into that here…
Mpreg Obsession: What author would you like to co-author with? Why?
Connor: Oh, there are so many! Piper Scott would be a blast to work with (have you SEEN her books?) and so would Susi Hawke, we both love shifters and fluffy adorable happy endings!
Mpreg Obsession: Who is your favorite character you've ever written?
Connor: Wow, that is a hard one. I think my favorite one is still going to go back to Ansel from The Dragon’s Forbidden Omega. He’s still trying to find himself in the world, and is quite the genius at gadgets and electronics. I have a soft spot for quirky inventors, what can I say? Second favorite is probably Chester from Diamond Falls! Everyone loves a cute guinea pig shifter am I right?
Mpreg Obsession: Do you read while writing? Why or why not?
Connor: Like, literally in the middle of typing? That sounds pretty hard, and I’m not that good at multi-tasking… But yeah, I like to read when I have time, usually to wind down before bed or if I’m up late at night and can’t sleep. Stories make good company, and the boys? Even more so.
Mpreg Obsession: What was your first writing experience like?
Connor: Well, I was in kindergarten, and I drew some crayon and construction paper book about a boy that could fly and saved the town from dinosaurs. I think my mom still has it somewhere.
Mpreg Obsession: What's your writing schedule like?
Connor: Wait, I’m supposed to have a schedule? Oh dear… If you are a self-published author share how you went about that process.
I’ve been blessed to grow up in the age of the internet where I can learn from those who have come before me. My first publishing contact was a librarian at my local library, and I’m so grateful for everyone I’ve met and worked with along the way.
Mpreg Obsession: What's the most embarrassing/strangest thing you've ever done or researched for your writing?
Connor: Hmm…where to even begin. Probably when I was writing a wrestle-fuck scene and had to watch quite a number of videos to ahem, make sure I was doing it right…
Mpreg Obsession: Where do you write? Describe your writing space.
Connor: I mostly write at my desk in my bedroom. I have my laptop, a monitor nearby, and some nice soft lighting. And food! Always food.
Mpreg Obsession: Are you currently working on a new book? Tells us about one of your new character or locations that will be featured.
Connor: I am! I’m currently writing about a fox shifter omega who grew up an orphan and was taken in by a criminal organization. In the midst ofone final heist, he meets his fated mate… will he follow his duty or his heart?
Mpreg Obsession: Do your characters have special hobbies or interests?
Connor: Yeah. Daniel from Ruby Heat LOVES donuts, for instance. And Edison from Topaz Heat might look tough, but he actually loves to knit!
Mpreg Obsession: What was the most valuable writing tips you have received?
Connor: Just keep writing. Every book you put out there is better than the last.
Mpreg Obsession: How you celebrate when your book is completed and published?
Connor: Napping. Lots of napping. And then refreshing the Amazon page over and over. Haha.
Mpreg Obsession: Who is your writing hero?
Connor: Probably Susi Hawke or Yumoyori Wilson. Both of them show the power of determination and hard work to rise above difficult situations and improve the lives of themselves and their family.
Mpreg Obsession: What was the best review you have received for a book?
Connor: I love when readers tell me they “can’t put it down”…that means I’m doing something right! I aim to get readers hooked from the first page, cause I’m evil like that.
Mpreg Obsession: How you celebrate when your book is completed and published?
Connor: Only five? “Favorites” always feels so exclusive to me, but I’ll tell you five I simply adore:
- Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman - one of my first fantasy loves and the start of a huge fantasy universe with sword and sorcery adventures for everyone. Also the start of my love affair with dragons. Go read the Dragonlance books!
- The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - Some of the most beautiful prose and world building I’ve ever read. Each page feels like you’re in a richly detailed dream world, and I was truly sad to leave when the book ended.
- Harry Potter by JK Rowling - Read these books as I grew up and it was so wonderful to be able to follow Harry’s adventures and immerse myself in such an expansive world.
- The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien - A classic and for good reason. Just plain fun storytelling. Best if read aloud.
- Widdershins by Jordan L. Hawk - Oh look an M/M book made the list! Jordan L. Hawk knows everything I love and puts them all together in a book so perfectly: gay love, mystery, magic, and a historical setting that will make you swoon.
Mpreg Obsession: Is there anything that you won't ever write?
Connor: I used to have an answer for this, but I’ve been writing long enough to know to never say never!
Mpreg Obsession: What's on your To Be Read List?
Connor: Oh goodness. It’s overflowing. I’m most excited for JM Wolf’s Diablo (we’re release day buddies!) and Macy Blake’s newest book as well! In non-M/M land, I’m eagerly eyeing Leigh Bardugo’s next release in the Grishaverse
Mpreg Obsession: Are you a plotter or fly by the seat of your pants kind of writer?
Connor: I definitely like to have an outline before I start. It starts out at a very high level without much detail and then I flesh it out more as I continue through the story.
Mpreg Obsession: What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Connor: Write every day. Don’t give up. Every word you write is practice for the best book of your life.
Mpreg Obsession: What kind of advice was given to you when you started writing?
Connor: Read a lot. Write a lot. Love a lot.
Mpreg Obsession: If they got stuck on an island what three things would they take with them.
Connor: Who me? I’m hopelessly tech-addicted, so I hope my phone works there! Lol. That way I can carry all my favorite ebooks with me too. :) Oh, and some food and clothes. That would be nice.
Mpreg Obsession: What's your favorite snack to have while writing?
Connor: I love making peanut butter and banana smoothies. Or sometimes I’ll have a square of dark sea salt chocolate to reward myself for a good word count day.
Mpreg Obsession: Does music dictate or help you connect with your characters? If so what kind music?
Connor: I like to listen to Chillhop while writing, it’s subtle enough to not be distracting but has a nice beat to write to. :)
Mpreg Obsession: Would you spend a night in a haunted mansion for $50 million?
Connor: Hell yea!
